Microsoft and the Crown Commercial Service (CCS), on behalf of the UK Government, have entered a strategic 5-year agreement, effective November 1st, aimed at revolutionising digital services across the UK public sector. This partnership is set to provide public sector organisations with access to Microsoft’s suite of cloud-based and AI-driven tools, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Business Applications, and the groundbreaking Microsoft 365 Copilot. This partnership marks a significant step toward modernising the UK's government services, enhancing collaboration, and making data-driven decisions to serve citizens better.
Unlocking the UK’s AI Potential
The UK Government aims to accelerate digital transformation and innovation across the UK public sector, enhance efficiency, improve cross-departmental collaboration, and deliver faster and more intelligent services for the citizens. This new partnership represents a significant opportunity for the public sector to leverage cutting-edge AI tools and robust cloud solutions to future-proof services. Organisations can benefit from Microsoft 365 Copilot's ability to automate tasks and enable more intelligent decision-making, while Azure’s scalable cloud platform provides the infrastructure to support modernisation across departments.
According to Public First's recent research, digital technologies such as AI and cloud can create a half-a-trillion opportunity for the UK economy, increasing GDP by over £550 billion by 2035 over the next decade. AI could help make individual civil servants more productive, level up skills across the workforce and enable entirely new services and working methods.
This deal also represents a significant opportunity to boost economic growth by easing the cost-of-living crisis and creating employment opportunities.
As Clare Barclay, CEO of Microsoft UK, emphasised:
“AI technologies present a unique opportunity to transform public services and fuel the UK’s economic growth.
This exciting new five-year partnership will mean Microsoft can continue to support the UK Government to create a world-class, digital-first public sector infrastructure, that will improve service delivery for citizens across the whole of the UK and create opportunities for all.”
Igniting Innovation by Bridging the Skills Gap
The UK government is focused on developing next-generation cloud services to enhance data quality and productivity, enabling informed decision-making for government departments around public service delivery. This agreement supports public sector organisations' digital transformation efforts, emphasising the need for a digitally skilled workforce in the AI era. By leveraging the size and scale of the public sector, the government aims to provide maximum value and foster growth, securing a better future for all citizens.
